Curriculum

Weekly Didactic Conference

Weekly teaching conferences/didactics will be required, and will focus primarily on core topics represented in the Certification of Added Qualifications in Sports Medicine. These sessions will be presented by the fellowship director or another faculty member. Attendance is mandatory, and the fellow is expected to be on-time.

Musculoskeletal Ultrasound

Hands on sports ultrasound and didactic sessions will occur throughout the year based on a preset curriculum and most often will occur directly before weekly didactics unless otherwise specified. They will focus on specific anatomic areas (i.e. foot/ankle, knee, hip, wrist/hand, elbow, shoulder).

Monthly Journal Clubs with Faculty

Journal club sessions are required monthly, and will precede the morning teaching conference/didactics. These sessions will be assigned by the fellowship director. The fellow will be required to select an appropriate journal club article from the recent literature. Articles must be delivered electronically or in paper to participants no less than one week prior to the journal club.

Scholarly Activity

The fellow will be required to undertake a systems based practice project during the year. They will also have the opportunity to participate in research if they so desire. Additionally, the fellow will present at least two noon conference lectures to the family medicine residents.

Conferences

AMSSM Fellows Research and Leadership Conference – Each July, the fellow will attend this 4-day national conference which focuses on developing research skills and leadership in sports medicine while making connections with fellows and faculty from across the country. The fellow will attend either the AMSSM or the ACSM Annual Meeting
