Overview

Sometimes the road to recovery can be a long one, but your body is stronger than you know. If you or a loved one have suffered a serious injury or illness, are recovering from surgery or have delayed developmental milestones, Adena’s rehabilitation team can help.

The side effects of an injury, surgery, or stroke  can affect the way you think, how you walk, your ability to speak and even your ability to get dressed in the morning. To help ensure that these changes are not permanent, immediate treatment in the emergency department and prompt rehabilitation is essential.

The goal of rehabilitation is to improve your movement, speech and cognitive function. Research shows that starting rehabilitation therapy as soon as possible can help you recover faster and better.

The Adena rehabilitation team believes there’s more to rehab than physical, occupational and speech therapy. That’s why we also offer:

• Recreational Therapy - This therapy is designed to help you get back to regular activities. Part of recreational therapy also includes Adena’s Enabling Garden, which combines rehab therapy with nature.
• Community Re-Entry - Adena therapists accompany you to banks, grocery stores and restaurants and helps you re-learn how to get in and out of a car, maneuver a walker, make decisions and interact with servers and bank tellers.
• Psychology Services - Adena’s rehab psychologists can help you identify and cope with the emotions caused by the stroke, such as frustration, anger or depression.
• Outpatient Rehab - Once you leave the hospital, you will typically continue rehab in an outpatient rehab unit. Research shows that patients who continue their rehab can continue to make great progress. 
• Stroke Support Group - This no-cost support group meets quarterly and is open to all stroke patients and their caregivers regardless of where they were treated. For more details, please call 937-981-9294.
