Welcome from the Director

Thank you for your interest in Adena Health’s Psychiatry Residency Training Program in Chillicothe, Ohio, just an hour south of Columbus. At our program, you’re more than just a resident—you’re family. With only three residents per class, we offer the kind of close mentorship and personalized training that’s hard to find in larger programs.

Our program is rooted in a commitment to rural mental health care, preparing residents to meet the unique needs of underserved communities while gaining diverse clinical experience in larger urban centers. Training sites include our own hospital, OhioHealth Grant, OSU, Nationwide Children’s, and the Chillicothe VA Medical Center. During the outpatient year, our residents primarily serve patients at our hospital-affiliated mental health clinic while also spending one day each week at a community clinic in downtown Columbus.

We believe great training happens when residents feel supported, so we value resident well-being as much as clinical excellence. We offer dedicated wellness days to ensure our residents have time to rest, recharge, and maintain balance. Our faculty team fosters a collaborative culture and are invested in our residents’ success. We offer a structured faculty-resident mentorship program, pairing each resident with a faculty mentor for guidance, career development, and personal support throughout training. Graduates of our program go on to fellowships or rewarding careers in a wide variety of settings across the country.

As both the program director and a proud graduate of this program, my mission is to help our residents grow into confident, skilled psychiatrists ready to make a meaningful impact in the lives of their patients.
