Construction begins in 2025, and the new hospital is expected to open in 2027.
The current facility has served the community for 75 years, and we’re proud of its legacy of care. As we look to the future, a new hospital will allow us to expand services, offer more privacy and comfort, and bring in modern technology to meet the evolving needs of patients, families, and businesses in Fayette County and beyond.
The new Adena Fayette Medical Center will be built on the current campus at 1430 Columbus Ave. in Washington Court House, near the existing Medical Arts Buildings.
Once the new hospital is complete, the current building will be removed to allow for additional parking. This will enhance the patient experience while preserving the campus location that has served Fayette County for decades.
The new Adena Fayette Medical Center represents a $70 million investment in the health and future of Fayette County. Funding comes from a combination of operating revenue, private financing, state and federal grants, and community support – not local taxpayer dollars.

At this time, labor and delivery services are not planned for the new hospital. While we understand how meaningful those services have been to many local families, this decision was made after careful consideration and reflects a number of factors.
Expectant parents are referred to Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe, where full labor and delivery services are available alongside NICU support and around-the-clock OB/GYN care. This ensures safe, high-quality care for both parent and baby.
The new hospital will continue to offer non-delivery OB/GYN services such as prenatal care, gynecologic exams, and specialty consultations so patients can still receive much of their care close to home.

Yes. The new hospital is moving forward, with construction starting in 2025. We know it’s felt like a long time coming, and here’s why:
When early plans were being developed, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, shifting priorities across the entire health system. Like many hospitals, Adena had to focus on frontline response, staff and patient safety, and navigating the unprecedented challenges the pandemic brought. That understandably slowed the timeline.
Since then, we’ve been working through every detail behind the scenes: from design and financing to land use and regulatory approvals. Now, with all approvals in place, the new hospital is on track to open in 2027.

The new Adena Fayette Medical Center will be nearly the same size as today’s facility — about 65,000 square feet, or 69,000 including mechanical spaces, compared to 73,000 now. The real difference comes in how the space is designed and will be used. Modern construction allows us to gain new efficiencies, making every square foot work smarter for patients and caregivers. By relocating non-clinical administrative spaces out of the hospital and into another building on the campus, we’re creating close to 6,500 square feet of additional space for patient care. The new hospital design has also been planned with growth for the future in mind, allowing for strategic expansions as community needs grow.
