What is maternal-fetal medicine?

Obstetricians specialize in Maternal-fetal medicine which is advanced training in more complex pregnancies. You may be referred to a maternal-fetal medicine specialist for:

Chronic health conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease, lupus, multiple sclerosis, or obesity.
Pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia (high blood pressure) or concerns about fetal growth and development.

Fetal health concerns, including suspected genetic disorders or chromosomal conditions.
Twin, triplet, or multiple pregnancies.
Advanced ultrasound imaging, genetic screening, and diagnostic testing.
