Veterans resources

Navigating community resources for special populations can be challenging. This page is starting point to connect to resources for Veterans in our area. If you are still not finding what you are looking for, visit the website for the National Veterans Foundation Lifeline. This is a compilation of resources throughout the country with a variety of topics (housing, medical, employment, mental health, legal, etc.).

General resources

VAMC Transfers

Every VAMC transfer requires a transfer packet to be completed. Transfers can be facilitated through the VA transfer center (typically a nurse expeditor) or if after hours, through the administrator on duty (AOD). 

Chillicothe VAMC

Medical center offering primary care, mental health care and select specialty care. There are a number of social support programs through this location. For a full list of services/programs, click here

Dress Right Dress, Inc.

A local agency for Veterans (based in Kingston, but serves Veterans throughout the state) that is focused on addressing issues Veterans face in civilian life. Agency focuses on employment, housing, addiction/mental health, and much more. They are also a great resource for Veterans in the criminal justice system to help the Veteran access resources with his or her special needs in mind.

Ohio Department of Veterans Affairs

Provides resource information and some services to Veteran in Ohio. This site also has information about how to access military records and other resource connections a Veteran may need (job training, education benefits, etc.).

Ohio VA Facilities

There are more VA facilities in Ohio than in Chillicothe. This link will connect you to the full list of VA facilities in Ohio. The list includes hospitals, primary care clinics and others. From this page, you will also be able to link electronically to most of these locations for more information.

Ohio Veterans Homes

There are 3 Veterans Homes in Ohio. This page provides you with information about the homes and the admission process.

Veterans Crisis Hotline

Veterans can access the National Crisis Line by calling 988. Once they dial, s/he can press 1 to be connected to the Veterans Crisis Line. This provides them with access to crisis intervention targeted for Veterans. Texting and chat features are also available.

Veterans Service Commission

There is a board in each Ohio County to assist Veterans and their families. Availability and type of support varies by county. The link above accesses the list of the commissions in each county and the commissioners. 

Homeless resources

Chillicothe VA Medical Center offers resources for Veterans who are experiencing homelessness. To access this resource information, click here. The programs are open to most Veterans in the Adena service area.

Save a Warrior

Save a Warrior is an 80-hour intensive integrative program to help Veterans, Active-Duty Military and First Responders experiencing Complex Post-Traumatic Stress.

LGBTQ+ Resources for Veterans

The VA offers resources to support LGBTQ+ Veterans with crisis support, community support and system navigation. Each VA has a coordinator. The link to the Chillicothe Coordinator is here
