Homeless shelters

Some of the counties in our area have homeless shelters available. Shelter space is often limited with admission criteria varying by shelter. Please follow the links below for specific information about each shelter location.  

Fayette County

Brick House - Shelter serves single women, couples with children, couples without children and single-parent families. There is an entry process to enter the shelter that includes a police and sheriff's report. Please note, a criminal background does not necessarily mean denial to enter the shelter. Highland County

Highland County Homeless Shelter - is located at 145 Homestead Avenue, Hillsboro. Contact info: (937) 393-0634. 

Jackson County

Jackson County Homeless Committee - provides resources  for emergency assistance, homelessness prevention and recovery support through collaboration with other Jackson County agencies and resources. Intake calls for services can be made Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. by caling 740-577-5282. The group has a Facebook page for more details; however, this cannot be linked to through the Intranet.

Pickaway County

Currently no listed shelter options in Pickaway County; however, Pickaway Community Action does offer programming to those who need assistance in form of a one-time rent payment to prevent homelessness. For more information, please contact Pickaway County Community Action at (740) 477-1655. 

Pike County

Bridgehaven - Currently this shelter has sleeping arrangements one the second floor and no elevator access presently. Please call ahead for admittance/availability. For admission, a drug test must be completed and be negative. The shelter is located at 109 W. Second Street, Waverly. Contact info: (740) 941-4348.

Ross County

Seeds of Hope - provides shelter for women, children and men with families. For more information, please call (740) 663-7005. The shelter is located at 2170 Lunbeck Road.

Men's shelter - temporarily closed. 

Ross County Community Resource Center - Opened December 2023. Provides day services and emergency shelter at night. For more info, call 740-702-7222 ext. 148. Shelter hours are 4 p.m. to 8 a.m. (no entry after 10 p.m.) and day service hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Scioto County

Friends of Scioto County Homeless Shelter - Please call for availability. Shelter is for families or individuals. Ph: 740-353-4085; Address is 615 8th Street, Portsmouth, OH 45662
