Over the past seven years, Chelsey Walden has turned to Rebecca Pareja, MD, of Adena Women’s Health-Blackwater, through some of life's most significant moments — welcoming children into the world, navigating unexpected complications, and now preparing for surgery that will bring relief from pain.
Their relationship began as part of a physician transition during the final months of Chelsey’s second pregnancy and quickly developed into one built on trust, familiarity, and a shared commitment to Chelsey’s health.
“I immediately felt comfortable and well cared for around her,” the Chillicothe native said. “She has always trusted what I tell her, really listened to me, and gone above and beyond for my well-being.”
Over the years, their relationship proved valuable time and again. Because Dr. Pareja was very familiar with Chelsey and her medical history — including some postpartum hypertension following the birth of Chelsey’s second child — she closely monitored her patient during her third pregnancy. Her quick actions, including inducing labor a little early due to rising blood pressure and recognizing the baby was in the wrong position, helped ensure a safe delivery for both mother and child.
“My son, Gabriel, was stuck behind my pubic bone,” Chelsey said. “Dr. Pareja worked tirelessly for hours to get him into the proper position because she knew I didn’t want a c-section. It worked, and my son was born healthy.”
It wasn’t the last time their relationship would help Chelsey. When she finished breast feeding, Chelsey began experiencing bleeding, severe pain, and strong cramping. Dr. Pareja concluded the issue was adenomyosis, a painful condition involving the uterus. Chelsey was scheduled for a hysterectomy to bring her relief.
Looking back over the years since they met, Chelsey sees Dr. Pareja as more than a physician who delivered her children or diagnosed a painful condition. She sees someone who has been a constant presence through some of the most important and challenging moments of her life.
"Dr. Pareja has been there for me through so many different stages," Chelsey said. "She knows my history, she listens, and she genuinely cares about what's best for me. I have complete confidence in my care because I know I'm not facing anything alone. I'm going through it with a physician who has been by my side for seven years."
