The physicians at Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute see surgery not as a first resort, but as the last.
During mid-summer of 2022, for instance, Cindy Loomis started experiencing ankle pain and decided to seek help at Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute. Following an initial evaluation and x-rays, her doctor decided the first step was treatment to address arthritis.
About a month passed, at which point an MRI was ordered and physical therapy was prescribed, with her physician seeing Cindy roughly every two weeks for monitoring.
“My AOSI doctor was very helpful and kind,” Cindy said.
Following physical therapy, Cindy was placed in a boot for six weeks as a final effort to avoid surgery. When surgery became unavoidable, however, her doctor performed a Tenex procedure, which is used to treat chronic tendon pain from tendinosis, with a couple more weeks in a boot during recovery.
Since undergoing some additional physical therapy following the procedure, Cindy said she hasn’t experienced any additional trouble with her ankle. She appreciates the fact that AOSI made every effort possible to treat the problem without surgery, and that she did an excellent job.
What also impressed her was the way her Adena Health doctor treated her as a person, not just a patient, and as a partner in her care. They shared photos of children and grandchildren, and Cindy said her physician is very personable, listens well, and takes her patients’ opinions and feelings into consideration with their treatment plan.
That is important to her, and she’s recommended others to Adena Orthopedic and Spine Institute to experience that level of care for themselves.
