The New Year got off to a slow start in Adena Health System's Labor and Delivery Unit, at least until Jessica and Frank Wagner of Piketon arrived at around 8 a.m., ready to deliver a set of twins by C-section. The twins, a boy and a girl, were born on January 1 at 12:18 p.m. and 12:20 p.m. respectively, becoming the first children born in Ross County in 2013. Daughter Avery Grey came first, weighing 5 pounds, 7 ounces; followed by her brother Gavin Joseph who weighed 6 pounds, 2 ounces. The babies' due date was January 27. Because they were twins, the babies were already scheduled to be born early on January 8. However, Jessica's obstetrician, Dr. Scott Morehead of Adena Health System, moved that date up a week because Avery was no longer growing in the womb. Jessica said, 'We were a little anxious when we learned this, but they came out wonderful. They are both completely fine.' The babies are the fifth and sixth children for the 30-year old couple who has been together for about a year. Married in May 2012, the Wagners each brought two children to the marriage. Jessica has two sons ages 7 and 9; and Frank has a son and daughter, ages 6 and 7. As expected, the entire family is thrilled to have a set of New Year's babies. 'We're just very excited,' said Jessica. 'We kept asking all day if any other babies had been born yet, and Dr. Morehead kept saying, ﾑNo, we're waiting on you guys.' We're very excited.'
