There are many different types of lab tests, each with their own method for unveiling health conditions. These tests may be ordered by your doctor, or you can order a test without a referral.
Common types of lab testing include:
BMP (basic metabolic panel) - is used for screening, diagnosis and monitoring a wide range of health conditions. It measures glucose, sodium, potassium, calcium, chloride, carbon dioxide, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine.
Specimen collections
CBC (complete blood count) - is used to diagnose anemia, leukemia, allergic reactions, viral infections, bacterial infections and parasitic infections.
CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel) - combines the basic metabolic panel with six other tests that focus on liver functions.
Specimen cultures - are used to diagnose and treat infections such as strep throat, MRSA or urinary tract infections.
Cytology - is a fluid specimen used to diagnose or screen for cancer.
Hemoglobin A1c - is a recommended marker of long-term metabolic and diabetic control.
Lipid panel - is used for screening, diagnosis and monitoring different health conditions by analyzing cholesterol, LDL, HDL and triglycerides.
Hepatic (liver) panel - is used to diagnose and monitor liver and other health conditions that affect the liver.
Prothrombin Time (PT or Protime)/International Normalization Ratio (INR) - is used to test blood clotting and monitor patients on oral anticoagulant therapy.
Thyroid stimulating hormone - tests the status of your thyroid.
Urinalysis - provides screening information for metabolism, bacteria, cells, fungal materials and other byproducts.
To make it easier for you to receive standard blood work, Adena Health System offers drive-up curbside collection locations for added safety and convenience. You can have blood drawn while remaining in your vehicle while limiting contact with other patients, visitors and staff. Curbside locations are available at our Western Ave. location, as well as Jackson and Waverly.
