Mission Statement

The Adena Family Medicine Residency Program is committed to being the leader in our region by providing compassionate, high quality evidence-based care. We are dedicated to educating residents in a socially responsible and culturally appropriate way. We strive to meet the health care needs of Ross County and the surrounding communities we serve by promoting preventative medicine and holistic health education.

Application Requirements

The Graduate Medical Education Committee reviews the selection/interview criteria for resident candidates annually.  The residency program is interested in identifying candidates with a strong commitment to family medicine who have the documented educational background and/or experience to succeed in residency training in family medicine.  Application through the Electronic Residency Application Service is required, excellent communication skills are expected, and a clear commitment to the philosophy of family medicine is required.  Preference is given to graduates from medical school in the last two years (or those who have pursued medical education since graduation), those who have passed the COMLEX or USMLE Steps 1 & 2 on their first attempts, and those who have been recommended by family physicians.  Candidates may be screened for a history of unprofessional behavior that might be of concern by the American Board of Family Medicine professionalism requirements. It is the policy of Adena Health System not to sponsor individuals for immigration status unless warranted by exceptional circumstances and/or business necessity. All residents must be eligible for a training certificate from the Ohio State Medical Board and have verified graduation from a US medical school (or be an ECFMG certified graduate of an international medical school).  All residents must be able to be insured for professional liability through the Adena Health System insurer.
