Dr. John DesMarais joined Adena as the Assistant Director for the GME Family Medicine program in 2016.

His career as a physician and teacher brings a breadth of experiences to the program. Dr. DesMarais started his career as a family medicine physician and eventually found his way to emergency medicine. His background also includes many roles in administration from E.D. medical director, the Medical Director for Ohio’s prison system and even hospital CEO.

“What I really like about teaching is those “ah-a moments” when the light bulbs go off,” says Dr. DesMarais. “I really enjoy being able to share with others how we can improve patient care on a bigger scale. When we share our approaches with these new doctors and they take what they have learned and now more lives are being affected.”

Dr. DesMarais also enjoys football, baseball, fitness, and the beach.
