Tips for families
- Choose a point person. Designate one member of the family as the point person or contact for the doctor and nurse. This will allow the nurse to spend more time with your loved one and less time on the phone with different family members.
- Take care of yourself. Your loved one needs you in your best health. Try to eat a healthy diet, get adequate sleep, and take some time away from the hospital.
- Use the hospital support systems. This is a stressful time and you may feel helpless and afraid. The hospital pastoral staff can help meet your needs.
- Speak up. If you have any concerns or questions about your loved one’s care speak with the charge nurse, supervisor, or director.
What to bring
Please only pack personal items that you will need during your hospital stay, like a robe or reading material. It’s also helpful for your caregivers to have a complete list of medications you’re taking.
Please note that the hospital is not responsible for personal items that are lost. Please leave jewelry, electronic devices or valuable items such as large amounts of cash, wallets or purses with a family member or friend.
Gift shop
Our gift shops are available for patients, families, visitors and staff and offers a variety of gift items, reading materials and snacks.
Flowers can also be purchased at the gift shop. If you are having flowers or balloons delivered, remember: only Mylar balloons are permitted in the hospital, and flowers are not allowed in the intensive care unit.
