Adena’s commitment to patient safety recognized again nationally with third straight ‘A’ hospital safety grade

CHILLICOTHE, OH (November 17, 2022) – For the second time this year and the third consecutive evaluation period, Adena Regional Medical Center (ARMC) has been nationally recognized for its success in living up to its commitment to protect patients from harm and error while in the hospital.

Following up on its ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade awarded in the fall of 2021 and again in the spring of this year, Leapfrog has announced that ARMC has maintained its ‘A’ rating for this fall’s grading period. Leapfrog’s hospital grades are updated twice each year.

Among Ohio’s 119 rated hospitals, only 33 received Leapfrog’s top grade.

“Adena’s physicians, advanced practice providers, and caregivers are committed to a safety first culture that results in zero harm to the patients who trust us with their care,” said Adena Vice President of Quality and Safety Rhett Holland. “It’s a commitment each of us takes very seriously, so receiving this ‘A’ rating for the third straight time sends a clear message that when you come to ARMC, you can have peace of mind knowing that you will receive the highest-quality care provided in a safe environment by caregivers who make your well-being their top priority.”

To arrive at its letter grades, Leapfrog analyzes the safety performance of hospitals across the country based on available data from more than 30 national performance measures in such areas as infection prevention, surgery, general patient safety, practices in place to prevent errors from occurring, staffing and staff responsiveness, and others.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade was created from a vision about a decade ago to provide those utilizing hospital services with critical information on how likely they are to experience accidents, injuries, errors, or harm while in the hospital. The data for each hospital evaluated is made available online to assist patients in their decisions on where to go for their care.

Because of data availability limitations, Leapfrog is not able to calculate hospital safety grades for such facilities as critical access hospitals, VA hospitals, and specialty hospitals.

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of health care across the United States.
