Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
- Department of:
- Adena Regional Medical Center
Adena’s vascular experts specialize in treating peripheral arterial disease, sometimes referred to as PAD. This common circulatory problem occurs when narrowed arteries reduce blood flow to the legs, resulting in burning, cramping and pain.
About 10 million Americans suffer from PAD. People with this disease have a much higher risk of dying from coronary artery disease than patients in the general population. One of the biggest problems is that many people don’t recognize the symptoms of PAD or don’t know that they can be treated.
Adena’s cardiologists are taking an aggressive approach to this disease. We begin by talking to patients regularly about whether they are experiencing pain in their extremities and we screen patients who have risk factors for this disease.
