Adena Dermatology is pleased to offer Mohs surgery in south central Ohio. Thomas Lewis, MD, of Adena Dermatology, specializes in Mohs microscopic surgery, a procedure that is able to precisely remove the skin cancer tumor layer by layer while leaving the surrounding healthy tissue intact and unharmed. Mohs surgery is typically done as an outpatient procedure using local anesthetic. Proven the most effective skin cancer treatment, Mohs boasts a 98 percent success rate in removing the most common types of skin cancer—basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
Frederick Mohs, MD, originally developed Mohs micrographic surgery in the 1930s. With minimal improvements over the years, the procedure has become the gold standard in skin cancer treatment.
