General Illness Treated by Primary Care
Adena Primary Care physicians provide care for patients in Southern Ohio for a number of general illnesses. Our physicians see patients who come in with a general list of symptoms, complaining of simply ‘not feeling well’. Our primary care physicians are trained to listen to patient symptoms, rule out conditions with questions, and create a treatment plan to address the patient’s illness.
The most common general illnesses that we see include:
- Cold
- Influenza
- Bronchitis
- Strep throat
- Eye infection
- Ear infection
- Urinary tract infection
- Skin infection
- Sinus infection
- Gastrointestinal illness
Identifying General Illness Symptoms
Understanding general illness conditions is the first step in identifying a health issue but learning how to identify specific symptoms is the most important element. If the following symptoms are persistent over time, more in-depth medical attention may be needed to determine the underlying cause:
- Runny nose
- Sore throat
- Fever
- Cough
- Itchiness in a specific area
- Consistent pain or ache
- Stomach ache
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Weakness
Testing for General Illness
Confirming a diagnosis with absolute certainty ordinarily requires some degree of testing. The most common tests used for identifying the cause of general illness include:
- Blood tests including blood glucose, basic and complete metabolic panels, complete blood counts, etc
- Electrolyte testing
- STD tests
- Pregnancy tests
- Urinalysis
- Drug tests and screenings
- Fecal blood occult
- Flu and rapid flu tests
- Strep tests
- Gynecological exams
Treating General Sickness
Identifying general illness can be a difficult task for Adena’s Primary Care physicians, but with our collective experience, we’ve seen just about everything. It is important that patients schedule routine visits to their PCP which establishes a relationship, patient history and helps the physician better diagnose these general illnesses that bring patients to the office.
