Joint Replacement Surgery at Adena
Whether the wear and tear of arthritis has taken a toll or you’ve suffered a serious injury, painful joints can keep you from doing the activities you enjoy. If nonsurgical treatments fail, joint replacement surgery might be an option.
Hips and knees are the most commonly repaired joints, followed by shoulders. During a joint replacement surgery, the affected joint is removed and replaced with an artificial joint, made of metal or ceramic material. This procedure, followed by rehab therapy, can restore function in the joint and lessen pain. And more good news: Success rates are high – in fact, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons reports that more than 90 percent of hip replacements do not require revision.
We're excited to announce that we've further expanded our joint replacement capabilities with Mako. Mako is a robotic-arm assisted technology that helps surgeons provide patients with a personalized surgical experience. A 3D model of your hip or knee will be used to pre-plan and assist your surgeon in performing your joint replacement surgery.
Adena’s orthopaedic surgeons are at the top of their field and represent the largest group of fellowship-trained physicians in the region. They perform total and partial hip replacements, total and partial knee replacements and total shoulder replacements.
Patients who are young and healthy are often good candidates for minimally invasive total joint replacement, which involves much smaller incisions than traditional joint replacement. This damages less of the surrounding tissues, and often results in a shorter hospital stay, shorter recovery time and smaller scars.
For patients who are considering joint replacement surgery, Adena Health System offers a free 90-minute Joint Replacement Class, where you’ll learn what to expect throughout your joint replacement journey. You’ll meet some of the members of Adena’s joint replacement team, and they’ll be happy to answer any questions you have about joint replacement surgery.
Plus, when you choose Adena for your joint replacement procedure, you’ll work with a dedicated patient navigator, who will help you schedule all of your appointments, answer your questions, and guide you through the process.
