High-Risk pregnancies and deliveries
While all parents consider their new infants miracles, those babies born in high-risk situations truly are miraculous. Today, 5 to 10 percent of pregnancies are considered high risk. Some of the more common reasons to be considered a high-risk pregnancy are:
- giving birth to multiples
- gestational diabetes
- moms-to-be who are over age 35
Whatever the reason, sometimes a pregnancy needs special care and special services like those offered by the clinical experts at Adena Regional Medical Center. The good news is that thanks to this specialized care, 90 to 95 percent of high-risk pregnancies result in a healthy baby. At Adena, we’re proud of the fact that fewer than 4 percent of our infants need to be transferred to a higher level of care for additional treatment.
We offer prenatal screenings for chromosomal abnormalities and birth defects, gestational diabetes education and management, plus 3-D ultrasounds to monitor the development of your fetus.
Our obstetricians collaborate with the physicians of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Department at the Wexner Medical Center at Ohio State University to provide specialized care throughout your pregnancy and delivery, with the goal of creating the best possible outcome for you and your baby.
Certified physicians and nurses provide around-the-clock specialized services in our Level II Special Care Unit. Telemedicine capabilities allow our pediatricians to confer real-time with experts at Nationwide Children’s Hospital via high-definition video.
Specialized beds for premature infants simulate the uterine environment and provide a warm, healing, low-stress experience. The beds, called Giraffe beds, also offer central monitoring capabilities, IV therapy, photo therapy, a respiratory simulator, and more.
Clinical quality is the area that sets us apart—we pride ourselves on being better than benchmark in all outcome measures for pregnancy and delivery!
