From sprains and strains to fractures and arthritis, Adena’s bone and joint (orthopedic) and sports medicine specialists begin with the least invasive treatment options. Musculoskeletal disorders are the second most common reason people visit the doctor. The good news is that many injuries can be treated without surgery, and for the team of orthopaedic (bone and joint) specialists at Adena Health System, that’s the goal. Our orthopaedic team follows a conservative approach to care — beginning with the least invasive treatment available -- in the hopes that surgery isn’t necessary.

Unless you have a traumatic injury that requires emergency care, an Adena sports medicine physician will assess your condition. Some injuries simply require rest and over-the-counter pain medications. Others might need physical therapy or injections for the pain. Surgery is considered only if medications, physical therapy and other treatments are unsuccessful.
