They Made Me Feel Like I Was Family

For over a decade, the Italian restaurant chain Olive Garden boasted the slogan “When You’re Here, You’re Family”. Those words are now becoming synonymous with the Adena Family Medicine – Main Campus Clinic.

Since opening the doors on their new location inside the Adena Health & Wellness Center on the Adena Regional Medical Center campus in December 2017, the providers, residents and caregivers working in the clinic have created an environment of caring that is exceeding patient and visitor expectations. Just ask Heather Oates of South Bloomingville following a recent visit with her seven-year old daughter.

“I could not have picked a better doctor’s office. I love it,” she exclaimed. “All my experiences with them have been amazing. Right from the very beginning, they made us feel like we were family.”

Heather was particularly won over by the way in which the staff took special care of her daughter, Madelyn, who has been in-and-out of hospitals since she was nine months old. Madelyn was in need of a blood draw and having had the procedure done many times before, she was none too thrilled about being stuck with a needle yet again. That was before Medical Assistant Richelle Johnson was able to ease Madelyn’s concerns thus creating a special bond that has since gone beyond that visit.

“Madelyn needed to leave the clinic and have her blood drawn in the Lab in another building, but she didn’t want to go unless Richelle could go with her,” Heather explained. “Sure enough, Richelle met us there and sat with us the entire time and even held her hand. Richelle walked her through the entire process and Madelyn never cried. Now she loves coming here and can’t wait to come back knowing she’ll see Richelle and everyone.”

She added, “I have worked in health care myself for 15 years and I have never seen another Emergency Room, Urgent Care or doctor’s office that has treated my children the way this office has. They cared about Madelyn and her feelings as well as my concerns. The fact that they made my child comfortable is what means a lot to me.”

Since that visit, the Oates family has returned to the Adena Family Medicine – Main Campus Clinic, this last time just so Madelyn could share lunch with Richelle and the staff.
