When you’re admitted to the hospital, you’ll receive the complete attention from a member of the Adena Hospitalist Group.

What is a Hospitalist?

A Hospitalist is a physician/certified nurse practitioner (CNP) who specializes in seeing patients while they are in the hospital. They have an in depth knowledge of the disease processes that lead to the need for hospitalization and can more efficiently and effectively treat patients in the hospital.

Will I see my own Primary Care physician (PCP) /Certified Nurse Practitioner (CNP) during my hospital stay? In most cases you will not. At the time of admission your PCP/CNP refers you to and is in communication with the Hospitalist to treat your acute illness while in the hospital. The Hospitalist in turn will refer you back to your PCP/CNP and communicate with them upon discharge. It is vitally important to have a follow-up appointment with your PCP/CNP after discharge so that care can be continued for you.

What is the advantage of a Hospitalist?

The Hospitalists are here at the hospital 24 hours a day/365 days a year to provide and manage care. This allows follow-up on diagnostic tests quickly and allows them to develop a treatment plan more efficiently. They also work with consulting specialists to coordinate your healthcare needs.
