Home Sleep Studies
- Department of:
- Adena Regional Medical Center
A convenient option for some patients is a home sleep study. The study focuses on nocturnal breathing and is used to diagnose obstructive sleep apnea. Because the emphasis is on breathing, it’s possible to use fewer sensors.
Not all patients are good candidates for a home test and not all insurance carriers will cover the cost of the study. If you need a sleep study, your doctor will make a recommendation based on your specific situation whether you should have your test done in the lab or at home.
Home sleep studies use a simple device, Stardust from Respironics, which you take home and wear to bed. You’ll bring the device back the next day, and we will evaluate your data, obtain a diagnosis and discuss treatment options. Below is a video explaining the equipment and what to expect.
