Young Golfer Gives Back

Local 10-year-old and golf prodigy Ty Schobelock gave a generous gift this Christmas season when he donated three new iPads to the Pediatrics Unit at Adena Medical Center.

“I think it is amazing that this young man did not have an iPad of his own and thought to donate some to the pediatric unit,” said Jackie Stansberry, Director of the Women and Children’s Center at Adena.

“This is such a selfless act for a 10 year old.”

The former Player of the Year on the U.S. Kids Golf Columbus Tour raised money for his trip to the World Championship tournament in Pinehurst, NC earlier this year. Some of the proceeds that Ty raised for his trip to the championship returned to the community, in the form of his donation to Adena Health System.

“I want to help the kids out because I realize how hard it is, and they just want to go home,” the straight-A student said about hospitalized youngsters.

Schobelock’s parents said their son spent time in and out of Adena’s Pediatric Unit about three years ago. During his stay, the youngster oftentimes was bored. Ty said he hopes the iPads will make other children’s stay more comfortable.

“Anytime you see a child being so generous and kind, it is touching to the heart,” said Stansberry. “This child has characteristics that will ultimately drive continued success in his lifetime.”

Ty, along with his parents, Todd and Dusty, and four-year-old sister Elise, visited the Pediatrics Unit this month to personally deliver the iPads.
