Print Adena and Walmart prepare to open clinics

Final preparations are being made as Adena Health System and Walmart join forces in making health care a lot more convenient in southern Ohio.
Beginning Jan. 30, a partnership with Walmart will bring two new Adena Walk-In Clinics to the area – in Chillicothe and Washington Court House.
“The clinics will provide convenient, high quality and cost-effective care to people in the region,” said Steve Keating, Adena’s Director of Business Planning.
Since plans for the partnership were announced last year, Keating and others have been busy addressing a long list of requirements, everything from choosing staff to insurance credentialing and arranging for medical record keeping to establishing performance metrics.
The clinics will provide “get-well services,” for a number of ailments, he said, including the common cold, sore throat, sinus infections, flu-like symptoms, pink eye, urinary tract infections, skin conditions and splinter removals.
In addition, the clinics will offer “stay-well services,” such as sports physicals, diagnostic tests, rapid tests and screenings for pregnancy, cholesterol, TB and STD tests. Vaccinations also will be offered for flu, pneumonia, HPV and hepatitis.
Patients will be provided electronic pagers so they continue shopping while at Walmart, while waiting their turn at the clinics.
The clinics are intended for patients in need of care for minor ailments. The clinics will serve adults and children over the age of 18 months, but injections will not be given to children under the age of seven.
The clinics also will help in Adena’s efforts to promote its presence in southern Ohio. The stores in Chillicothe and Washington Court House cater to more than 36,000 visits a week, “which is a tremendous opportunity to build our brand identity,” Keating said.
The walk-in clinics, which will be staffed by nurse practitioners from Adena, will be open seven days a week – from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. No appointment is necessary.
