Again, Adena Earns ‘A’ Rating for Safety by National Group

Adena Regional Medical Center (ARMC) has again scored an ‘A’ on the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Score Survey, for Spring 2016. The second consecutive A-rating comes just six months after ARMC earned it’s first-ever ‘A’ rating in Leapfrog’s annual Fall 2015 survey.

“Hospitals that earn an ‘A’ from Leapfrog are leaders in saving lives; and we commend them and urge their continued vigilance,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

Adena was one of 2,571 U.S. hospitals to be graded in the Survey. Chillicothe’s ARMC is among 798 earning an ‘A’ rating in the nation, and one of just 44 A-rated hospitals in Ohio. The Leapfrog Hospital Survey is the “gold standard” for comparing hospital performance to determine safety, quality and efficiency, which are most important to consumers of hospital care. Letter grades are assigned to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections.

“Achieving an ‘A’ rating represents the combined effort, dedication, and selfless service of Adena’s caregivers to deliver safe and reliable care at the highest quality,” said Rhett Holland, Adena’s Interim Director of Quality. “The Survey and its results are used to educate the public about the safe and quality care being provided to our patients.”

For the first time, the Spring 2016 Hospital Safety Score included five measures of a hospital’s patient-reported experience, as well as two of the most common hospital-acquired infections, C-diff and MRSA. It is calculated by top patient safety experts, peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

“Adena adopted a renewed vision last year; ‘To be instrumental in creating healthy and thriving communities,’” said Adena President and CEO Mark Shuter. “I am extremely proud of the quality of care being delivered by our caregivers, and the impact and value it is having on the lives of our patients and people living in communities throughout south central and southern Ohio.”

The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization driving a movement for giant leaps forward in the quality and safety of American health care. The flagship Leapfrog Hospital Survey collects and transparently reports hospital performance, empowering patients to find the highest-value for their care, and giving consumers life-saving information needed to make informed decisions.
