Adena Donation Helps First Responders

Caregivers from Adena Family Medicine Circleville and Adena’s Community Health Advancement Department recently presented Pickaway County’s Box 65 Scene Support Unit with a $250 cash donation and 25 cases of water. The funds and water will be used to help support local safety forces throughout the county and region during emergency events.

The Box 65 Scene Support Unit was created nearly five years ago to assist area first responders during emergency calls. The group primarily offers its support by providing water, food and protection from the dangers of extreme weather conditions. Box 65 provides scene response to fire, police and medical personnel.

“The health and wellbeing of our region’s first responders is something that we all rely on in times of need,” said Kim Jones, director of Adena’s Community Health Advancement Department. “Offering some assistance, to ensure that their health needs are met when they are serving our communities, is one way Adena is able to give back and show our appreciation.

According to Chief Mark Adkins, Box 65 was created more than four years ago at the request of Circleville’s former fire chief. In addition to serving safety personnel in Pickaway County, Adkins says the group often assists on scenes in Ross and other surrounding counties. Starting with just two calls in its first year, Box 65 responded to 27 scenes in 2014. The work of the group is reliant on the generosity of individuals and organizations like Adena.

“To this organization a cash donation helps us get snacks, fuel for the trucks, and equipment,” said Chief Adkins. “Water helps us keep folks hydrated, and its needed greatly. If we can keep the safety forces hydrated it’s going to keep them from ending up in the Emergency Rooms with heat exhaustion and dehydration.”

Supply donations to Box 65 may be dropped off at Circleville’s main fire station, located at 586 N. Court Street in Circleville. Boxes should be marked with “Box 65”. Financial donations can be sent to: Box 65 Scene Support, P. O. Box 65, Circleville, OH 43113.
