Exceptional Heart Care
It’s Here. It’s Now.

Until now, if someone you love needed open-heart surgery, your only choice was at least 60 minutes away.

Not any more.

Adena Health System has raised the bar on heart care with the addition of state-of-the-art open-heart surgery and interventional cardiac care. Now you can get comprehensive heart care, from diagnosis to clearing a blocked artery with angioplasty, to bypass surgery right in Chillicothe, from an experienced and highly skilled cardiac team. When it comes to your heart, Adena is the only place you want to be.  Our vision is to provide the best cardiovascular care available anywhere.

The future of cardiac care is now open.

We’ve brought three highly respected and accomplished cardiothoracic surgeons – Drs. Jack Baker, William Fanning, and Randall Miller – to Chillicothe to join our team! Together they have performed over 11,000 open-heart procedures!

You may already know one of these surgeons – they’ve been providing care for heart patients from South Central Ohio for a number of years – from their office in Columbus.

Now, their top-notch care and expertise is available right here. Together our cardiothoracic surgeons bring 51 years of surgical expertise to Adena.

Combine their experience with our specially trained team of cardiac and surgical nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, rehabilitation experts and cardiologists and you get comprehensive heart services in a familiar, family-friendly, comfortable and convenient setting. The only thing missing is the hassle of driving to Columbus or Cincinnati.

It’s easy to follow your heart.

Now follow-up care is more convenient, more timely and less stressful. Long journeys to see your cardiothoracic surgeon are now reduced to just a short drive. Accredited rehab programs are here too, making it more convenient for you and more likely that you will participate to full recovery. And should complications ever arise, comprehensive care is just a few minutes away.

Surgery isn’t always the answer.

We approach every heart individually. While some people might need open-heart surgery to correct their heart problem, many more won’t. So we’ve put as much time and effort into providing state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization procedures as open-heart surgery.

Highly skilled, fellowship trained interventional cardiologists use leading-edge technology to drastically reduce the risks created by blood clots or tissue dislodged during treatment by using filters to trap clots, devices that snare tissue debris, and powerful new anti-platelet medications.

On average, our interventional cardiologists perform hundreds of angioplasties each and every year. When it comes to heart care, experience counts. And our doctors have it.

Our comprehensive services include:

• Balloon angioplasty (PTCA)
• Catheter placed stents
• Atherectomy
• Pacemaker insertions, Implantable defibrillators
• Intensive Cardiac Care Unit
• Progressive Cardiac Care Unit
• Chest Pain Center certified by the National Society of Chest Pain Centers. Fewer than 200 chest pain centers across the U.S. have achieved this designation. We’re proud to be one of them
• Cardiac Rehabilitation Program certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Exceptional care before and after

Patients in our Intensive Cardiac Care Unit are closely monitored 24 hours a day using the most advanced monitoring technology available. Our ICU provides a comfortable and friendly atmosphere that is an ideal setting for patients and families to begin the journey to recovery. All of our ICU nurses are specially trained in caring for critically ill patients and work continuously to maintain and improve their skills and knowledge. To ensure that our cardiac patients receive the most advanced care, we’ve sent selected members of our nursing staff to receive special training and experience in caring for patients after open-heart surgery or elective angioplasty. Those charged with caring for these patients have received 3 1/2 months of full-time classroom instruction and hands-on bedside care experience to open-heart patients.

To ensure the highest quality of care for our heart patients, we’ve created a new unit at Adena – the Cardiac Progressive Care Unit. The CPCU specializes in providing intermediate care for patients who have undergone cardiac procedures. Select nurses in our CPCU have also received 400 hours of classroom instruction and months of hands-on bedside care experience. And we’ve hired additional staff members who bring with them years of cardiac care experience.
