When a child requires hospitalization, it's nice to know that Adena Regional Medical Center provides a Pediatrics Unit staffed with some of the most dedicated, knowledgeable and compassionate nurses and physicians anywhere.

The unit, which is located on the 3rd floor of Adena Regional Medical Center, includes nine private rooms specially decorated to ease a child's anxieties. Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay with their hospitalized child as much as they like and to participate in the care and recovery of their child.

To help make a hospitalization as pleasant as possible, each room is equipped with a telephone, cable television and a special sleep chair just for mom or dad. A video game system and VCR are also available. A playroom, which includes toys, books, a fish tank, and child-sized furnishings, is included on the unit.

Upon admission to Pediatrics, each child receives age-appropriate toys and/or stuffed animals. These are made available to the children through the special efforts of the Women's Board of Adena Health System and local law enforcement officers.

The Pediatrics Unit and staff are prepared to care for a wide range of children and families, including those with medical conditions ranging from diabetes to pneumonia and infectious disease to patients undergoing same-day procedures; and fractures and other traumatic injury.

Pediatric nurse are knowledgeable regarding acute pediatric care and recognize the central role of the family. We support, respect and encourage the participation of families in the child's health care. The nurses and physicians work very closely together to provide excellent care.

Our staff continuously works to learn the newest and most effective techniques and procedures to assist in the healing process.

In addition, our nurses share their knowledge with the greater community through speaking engagements at area schools and area festivals and events. Staff are available to speak on issues including bicycle safety, proper hand washing technique, smoking and self-esteem.

We are proud of the individualized, personal care that we give children and their families.
