Roger Pyle is just like you. “My Dad said if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” he recalled, which is why he never pressured his physicians to have a colonoscopy or insisted on having one. But when he began suffering stomach pain and was unable to move his bowels, he began to think differently about the screening procedure. Several months ago, at another hospital in Ohio, he was told to take laxatives to address his problems. “And it didn’t work.” Instead, the problems worsened.
Finally, with the help of his wife’s physician and an insurance representative, Pyle had a colonoscopy at Adena Health System which revealed a large tumor. Dr. John Kevin Miller of Adena Surgical, along with assistance from Dr. Michael Fealk performed surgery to remove the large cancer. “Dr. Miller saved my life,” Pyle said.
