Adena has a long history of giving for the benefit of our communities, dating back to the first Chillicothe Hospital in 1895. The Board of Lady Managers saw to it that the hospital began and survived as a publicly-supported charity. Linens, meals, furnishings, operating capital, medical supplies and equipment were donated because these things were needed for healthcare. Physicians donated one day each week to attend to the indigent. In so many ways, these traditions continue, including charity care for those who cannot pay for their care, patient and family education, clinical education for healthcare students, community outreach and Community Health Partners grants. Indeed, Adena health System represents a place for caring, healing, and learning.
The Community Benefit Committee of the Foundation’s Board of Directors guide the strategy and budget for this important component of Adena’s charitable mission while the Health System guides community benefit that is associated with patient care.
We define our Community Benefit efforts within the following framework:
Mission: to be a catalyst for advancing the health of our communities.
Vision: to be regionally recognized as beneficial, respected and needs-driven.
